Abolition & Harm Reduction: The WCA

To clarify the WOW Petition Campaign's position in light of discussion happening on social media:- Our Petition calls for an end to the Work Capability Assessment, this is our position, we are abolitionists. We agree with the British Medical Association & Royal College of Nursing that the WCA is "causing avoidable harm to some of the weakest and most vulnerable in society". This does not preclude changes which reduce the harm of the process. But any such harm reduction measures must be within the context of an understanding that the WCA is an abusive system, it cannot be reformed. Although harm reduction measures can be introduced, the over riding context must be of abolition, of an end to the WCA. Harm reduction and abolition are not mutually exclusive but harm reduction alone cannot be considered an objective.
